Two potato shipments detained at customs for quality violations

Two batches of imported early potatoes, totaling 45 tons, were not allowed entry into the Republic of Moldova. Inspectors found that these products did not meet the quality standards set by national legislation, resulting in their return to the producer.

According to the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA), inspectors found that the potatoes were excessively covered in soil, surpassing the legal limits.

According to the quality and marketing requirements for fresh fruits and vegetables, products must be clean and free of foreign impurities. For early potatoes, a maximum of 1% of the mass may consist of impurities, while for late potatoes, this allowance is up to 2%, with no more than 1% being adherent soil.

Under these conditions, ANSA has decided not to permit the goods to enter the country.

The institution has ordered the non-admission of two batches into the territory of the Republic of Moldova and their return to the producer, in accordance with applicable legal procedures.

The authorities state that this measure aims to protect consumers and ensure that products sold in the Republic of Moldova meet the required quality standards.
