Hospitals and kindergartens in Chisinau installed emergency water tanks

Chisinau is preparing for a potential water supply crisis due to a significant decrease in the flow of the Nistru and low water levels in the Novodnestrovsk reservoir. In response, hospitals and kindergartens in the capital were equipped with special containers, tanks, and cylinders to store water reserves that can last for several days in the event of a disruption in the drinking water supply.

The measures being implemented are preventive and aim to ensure the continuity of essential services as the water level in the Nistru continues to decline.

To provide drinking water, reserve containers have been placed on each floor of the Municipal Children's Hospital "Valentin Ignatenco." The hospital has purchased a total of 33 special tanks. Four of these tanks, each with a capacity of 210 liters, have been installed in the food service area. The remaining 29 tanks have been distributed to the clinical wards, including 26 containers with a capacity of 200 liters each and three containers with a capacity of 75 liters.

Additionally, to supply the institution with technical water, an unused basin with a capacity of 60 cubic meters was filled. This water has been chemically treated and can meet the institution's needs for approximately 48 hours.

The institution's pool has not been used recently. In the event of a potential crisis in the supply of drinking and household water, the institution has decided to fill the pool with water for household use. "This will help supplement our household water stock," explains Alexandru Holostenco, director of the "Valentin Ignatenco" Municipal Children's Hospital.

In August, all 108 kindergartens operating in Chisinau have been supplied with reserves of drinking and technical water. Tanks with a capacity of one ton have been delivered. For Kindergarten No. 59, this amount of water should last for approximately ten days.

"Here we have a lid that we use to pour water in with a hose. After filling it, we close the lid to keep the water fresh. To access the water, we open the lid and then close it again after use."

Another measure is to supply preschool institutions with drinking water bottles that have a capacity of 19 liters.

"This eurocube has a capacity of one ton and will definitely be very useful for us in carrying out our institution's activities. The cube was distributed on Friday; it was disinfected and filled with drinking water. We were also provided with 19-liter bottles," says Olga Petcu, the director of the kindergarten.

"Each group has a stainless steel vessel with a capacity of 40 liters that is always filled with water. In case of a water outage, we are prepared for any situation. Additionally, each group is provided with three water bottles," says educator Lilia Pînzari.

We remind you that the flow of the Nistru has decreased significantly due to drought and low water levels in the Novodnestrovsk reservoir. Authorities estimate that the water level could drop by up to 15 centimeters. To address this issue, an artificial dam is being constructed at the Vadul lui Voda Catchment Station to raise the water level and ensure that residents have access to drinking water.
