30 MW photovoltaic park will be built in Vadul lui Vodă for energy security

A photovoltaic park with an installed capacity of 30 MW and a 60 MWh energy storage system is set to be built in Vadul lui Vodă, within the Chisinau municipality. The project received authorization from the Government on Wednesday, August 5. It aims to enhance renewable energy production and strengthen the energy security of the Republic of Moldova.

The project will be developed on a land area of 40.7 hectares.

Planned for installation in 2027, the battery storage system will have a capacity of 60 MWh and will be capable of supplying accumulated energy at maximum power for approximately two hours. This system will help balance the power grid and enable greater integration of energy produced from renewable sources.

According to the Ministry of Energy, “The project aligns with the objectives of the Energy Strategy of the Republic of Moldova until 2030. It aims to develop green energy production capacities, reduce emissions, utilize previously unused agricultural land, and enhance the resilience of the energy system.”

Power plants with an installed capacity of over 20 MW are authorized by government decision, taking into account their impact on the electricity grid, land use, and the overall functioning of the national energy system.

As of April 2026, the installed renewable electricity generation capacity has surpassed 1 gigawatt (GW). Solar power dominates this sector, accounting for over 70% of the total installed capacity. Wind power is second, contributing around 25%, while hydropower and biogas each represent approximately 1%.
