Moldovan students win three medals at the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad

The Olympic team of the Republic of Moldova won a silver medal and two bronze medals during the country's first official participation in the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad, held from August 2 to 8, 2026, in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The silver medal was awarded to Alin Popescu, a 12th-grade student at “Orizont” Theoretical Lyceum in Durleşti, Chisinau municipality. The bronze medals went to Octavian Harcel, a 12th-grade student, and Ion Pavelescu, an 11th-grade student, both from the same institution.
This year's competition featured 435 students from 131 countries.
The Republic of Moldova team comprised these three students and was led by Dr. Sergiu Corlat, a professor at the State University of Moldova.
The Ministry of Education and Research and the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation congratulated the award-winning students, along with their teachers and parents, highlighting the significance of these results as a major achievement for Moldova's first official participation in this international competition.
