Japan-Moldova cooperation strengthens with $700K media aid

The friendship and cooperation between Teleradio-Moldova and Japan have significantly strengthened in recent years.

This strategic partnership is culminating in a substantial equipment donation for the public broadcaster, facilitated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aimed at modernizing its production capabilities.

During the visit of the Japanese Ambassador to the public television headquarters, the successful collaboration between Teleradio-Moldova and the Embassy was highlighted. The editorial project, "Where the Sakura Blossoms," launched by Ambassador Yoichiro Yamada as he concludes his mandate in the Republic Moldova, also played a key role in deepening these bilateral ties."I am delighted that we initiated a technical cooperation project with JICA, which will result in an extended donation for the public cultural television channel Moldova 2.

We highly value this partnership, which I consider strategic and of great importance," commented Deputy General Director of Teleradio-Moldova, Andrei Zapșa. General Director Vlad Țurcanu added: "We had an unforgettable experience with Japan and its representative, Ambassador Yamada. This meant a lot to our institution. Our staff have been, and will continue to be, involved in positive experiences that will drive the development of our institution and streamline many of our editorial and other processes.

"In a final symbolic gesture of lasting Japan-Moldova cooperation and friendship, Ambassador Yamada planted three sakura trees in the public television courtyard. This act clearly signifies the partners' desire for continuity and mutual respect.

"When something important happens, the Japanese Government and the Japanese people send sakura trees to their foreign friends. That is what happened today. The public television station is essential; its role is to inform and promote culture, and we are happy to see our cherry trees planted here," affirmed Ambassador Yoichiro Yamada in Chișinău.

Last year, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, providing Teleradio-Moldova with JICA technical assistance worth approximately $700,000. The primary goal of this partnership is the digital transformation of TRM into a modern institution, ready to face the challenges of the digital era and deliver quality content to the public in the Republic of Moldova.
